Smith Faces Manslaughter Charges

(Imperial, MO) A woman from Barnhart, 50 year old Holly S. Smith, is facing charges of Involuntary Manslaughter 1st Degree, Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death, and Driving While Intoxicated after she was allegedly involved in a deadly hit and run crash. Jefferson County Sheriff , Dave Marshak, says around 7:15 last Friday evening, May 20th, Deputies were called to the intersection of West Outer Road and El Lago Drive in Imperial. According to witnesses, a motorcyclist was hit by a white passenger vehicle driven by Smith who drove away from the scene. Deputies were contacted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and it was determined the Patrol would handle the crash investigation. It was later learned 54 year old James Meyer of Villa Ridge died from injuries suffered during the crash. A witness of the crash followed the white passenger vehicle and reported its location to Jefferson County 911 Dispatch. The vehicle was stopped by Arnold Police in the area of JeffCo Blvd. and Tall Oaks Dr. Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office DWI units arrived moments later and conducted field sobriety tests of the driver, Smith, who was the only occupant of the vehicle. Based on their findings, Smith was taken into custody. Smith is being held at the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Jail without bond.
