Donald Trump to be Inaugurated as 47th U.S. President Today

Washington, D.C. (KFMO) - In an unprecedented move prompted by extreme cold, Donald J. Trump will be inaugurated today as the 47th President of the United States inside the U.S. Capitol Rotunda. The ceremony, traditionally held outdoors, is scheduled to commence at 11 a.m.

Chief Justice John Roberts will administer the presidential oath to Trump, marking his second, non-consecutive term in office. Vice President-elect JD Vance will be sworn in by Associate Justice Brett Kavanaugh. The event will feature a performance of "America the Beautiful" by acclaimed country artist Carrie Underwood, accompanied by the Armed Forces Chorus and the U.S. Naval Academy Glee Club.

Following the swearing-in, the President and Vice President will attend the traditional inaugural luncheon with congressional leaders in National Statuary Hall. The day's proceedings also include a pass-in-review on the east steps of the Capitol, where the President will inspect military forces, followed by a procession along Pennsylvania Avenue. The inaugural parade will showcase a diverse array of military and civilian units, celebrating the nation's rich heritage.

President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden are expected to attend the ceremony, upholding the tradition of a peaceful transfer of power. However, some notable figures, including Michelle Obama and Nancy Pelosi, will not be present.

For those unable to witness the event in person, listeners can tune in to AM 1240 KFMO for comprehensive LIVE coverage, starting at 10 a.m., from CBS NEWS.
