16-Year-Old Killed in Jefferson County Crash

Jefferson Co., Mo. (KFMO) - A tragic accident early Saturday morning claimed the life of a 16-year-old driver from DeSoto and left a 15-year-old passenger with minor injuries.

The crash occurred at approximately 1:10 a.m. on Sunrise School Road, near the 4200 block, when a 2000 Ford Ranger traveling eastbound veered off the right side of the roadway.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the vehicle struck an embankment and overturned, ejecting the driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt. The driver, a juvenile female, was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS personnel at 1:34 a.m.

The passenger, a 15-year-old female from Barnhart, also unrestrained, suffered minor injuries. She was taken to Mercy Hospital South by ambulance for treatment.

The vehicle was listed as totaled.
