(St. Louis, MO) Nolan Arenado’s walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning propelled the St. Louis Cardinals to a 4-3 victory over the San Diego Padres Thursday night.
Arenado was 2-for-5 with a run scored earlier in the contest. Paul Goldschmidt collected three hits and drove in a run with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
The Cardinals erased a two-run deficit in the fourth scoring three runs. Starting pitcher Andre Palante settled in after allowing two runs in the top of the first. He’d 5.2 innings and strike out three batters.
San Diego didn’t score another run until the top of the eighth inning when Kyle Higashioka homered to left off of JoJo Romero.
St. Louis (66-67) are seven games out of a wild card spot.
