(Park Hills, MO) The 24th ranked Mineral Area Lady Cardinals begin the second half of the season with a victory over the John A. Logan Lady Volunteers, 62-47 at the Bob Sechrest Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Cards haven’t played since December 16, 2023 and the rust was apparent. MAC went of 20-for-72 from the field, just 3-of-20 from beyond the arc, and 19-for-34 at the foul line.
MAC Head Coach, Briley Palmer, says the win could have come a lot easier.
Katelyn Chomko paced the game with 25 points, knocking down two of MAC’s three 3-pointers. She also made all seven free throws taken. Ashley Buragas contributed 12 points and 8 rebounds in the winning effort.
The Lady Cards led 13-10 after the first quarter, and 26-23 at halftime. Logan wiped away the deficit and took over the advantage just passed the halfway point of the third quarter 35-33 thanks to key 3-pointers hit by Taylor Horton, who finished the game with 17 points in the loss.
MAC led by just two points after three quarters 39-37. In the fourth, MAC seemed to get their step back. Buragas and Chomko finished at important moments when the margin was slipping. The Lady Cards totaled 23 points in the final frame to John A. Logan’s 10.
MAC improves to 14-1 and will begin Conference Play Wednesday when they host Crowder. Coverage will start on KFMO and KFMOsportsPLUS around 4:30, with tip off at 5p.
