(Park Hills, MO) The sixth seeded Ste Genevieve Dragons finished fifth place in the 38th annual Central Lady Rebels Christmas Tournament after a 51-40 victory over the Steelville Lady Cardinals.
Ste Gen led early and often, starting with a 16 point first quarter to put them up by 10 at the end of the first. Steelville bounced back in the second, outscoring the Dragons 18-11 to bring the deficit to three points entering halftime. Ste Gen has a third quarter reminiscent of the first, scoring 16 again to the Lady Cardinals’ 11. With three more points than Steelville in the final quarter, Ste Gen secured the win and a fifth place finish in the tournament.
Chloe Staffen led the Dragons’ offense with 17 points while collecting nine rebounds. She was helped by eight points from Sadie Gremminger and nine additional rebounds by Kayden Huck. Marli Perkins put up 19 points for Steelville and Abby Kreitner grabbed five rebounds.
The Dragons went 2-1 in the tournament to secure fifth place. The Lady Cardinals finished 1-2.
