(Park Hills, MO) An area 10-and-under baseball team is headed to Crown Point, Indiana after qualifying for the Cal Ripken 10u World Series.
The Mineral Area All-Stars, also known as Bulldogs, punched their ticket to the biggest tournament of the year with a thrilling come-from-behind victory in the Midwest Plains Region Tournament championship game held in Denver, Colorado.
The All-Stars trailed 7-0 early before turning around. Head Coach Matt Hull says the team showed grit to come back and win in extra innings.
Mineral Area went 4-1 in Regional Play and topped Southeast Denver 11-10 to qualify for the World Series.
The State and Regional Champions are built with players from multiple teams from across the area including athletes from Central, Farmington, North County, West County, St. Paul Lutheran, and other school districts. Hull says the team came together quickly and it has shown in the results.
The Cal Ripken 10u World Series runs from Thursday, August 8th to Sunday, August 10th. Hull and the team are looking for sponsors to make the trip for the young players possible. They will be fundraising at different events this weekend to raise money.
