(Park Hills, MO) The fourth seeded Hillsboro Hawks defeated the 13 seed Crystal City Hornets in a 71-29 blowout victory. Despite only four 3-pointers falling for the Hawks, the team earned their way to a quarterfinal berth.
Hillsboro dominated play from the start, going on a 12-2 run in the first three minutes. They finished the half with a 23 point lead, 41-18. The Hawks continued their dominance into the second half where they outscored the Hornets 23-9 in the third quarter and 30-11 overall.
Crystal City was led in scoring by Kanden Bolton, putting up 10 points. Dominic Sutton led the Hawks on the scoresheet, putting up 19 points all coming from the field. Sutton was helped by Greg Robinson who put up 10 points. Only two players on the Hillsboro roster did not record any points.
Hillsboro will play the Potosi Trojans on Thursday, Dec. 28 at 5:30pm in the quarterfinal round of the tournament. Crystal City will play the Herculaneum Blackcats on Wednesday, Dec. 27th at 2:30pm in the consolation bracket.
