(Park Hills, MO) The second seed Fredericktown Lady Cats girls defeated the seventh seeded Potosi Lady Trojans 47-32 in the third game of day 1 at the Central Lady Rebels Christmas Tournament. The Lady Cats were led in scoring by Ava Penuel, who scored 13 points while gathering 8 rebounds.
The low scoring affair was a showcase of defense. Neither team shot above 35% from the field with Fredericktown going 17 for 59 and Potosi finishing 13 for 38.
“It wasn’t our best basketball by any means but at the end of the day you find a way to move on and that’s what they did,” Lady Cats head coach Micah Ruetzel said. “At the end of the day it was a win, so we’ll take it.”
Aubree Wilson led the Lady Trojans with nine points scored while grabbing nine rebounds. Penuel was joined in scoring double digits by Lady Cats teammate Gabbie McFadden, who had 11 points.
Fredericktown will play the South Iron Lady Panthers on Thursday, Dec. 28 at 2:30 pm and the Lady Trojans will play the Ste Genevieve Dragons on Wednesday, Dec. 27 at 11:30 am.
