(Park Hills, MO) The sixth seeded Festus Tigers defeated the 11 seed Fredericktown Blackcats in the low scoring final game of day 2, 38-22. The defensive bout featured a low field goal percentage for both teams with the Tigers shooting 39% and the Blackcats shooting 26%.
Festus led from the start, outscoring the Blackcats 16-5 in the first quarter and 24-9 in the first half. Fredericktown started the second half with an offensive run and ended up scoring 11 to the Tigers’ six in the third quarter, narrowing the gap. Unfortunately for the Blackcats, their well ran dry in the final quarter and the team went several minutes without a point to open. In fact, they only put up two points in the fourth and surrendered the win to Festus.
The Tigers were led by a 12 point night from Drew Johnson. He was helped by Carter Roth (9p) and Hayden Bates (8p, 13r). 12 of the Blackcats’ 20 points were scored by Zander Stephens.
The Tigers will play the Farmington Knights in the quarterfinals on Thursday, Dec. 28 at 8:30pm and the Blackcats will play the North County Raiders in the consolation bracket on Thursday at 11:30am.
