(Park Hills, MO) The third seeded Farmington Knights move on to semifinals play after a close low-scoring win against the six seed Festus Tigers, 44-41. The 68th annual Bob Sechrest Jr. Central Christmas Tournament continues on Friday, Dec. 29.
One of the closer games of the tournament thus far, neither team could muster double digits in the first quarter as it ended 9-7 in favor of the Knights. Festus outscored Farmington in the second quarter 11-7, setting the back and forth tone that would last throughout the rest of the match. The Knights came out hot in the second half and outscored the Tigers 14-11 in the third quarter. The game came right down to the wire and Farmington eventually came out on top by scoring two more points than Festus in the last quarter.
The Knights have Cannon Roth to thank for the win as he put up 16 points in total with more than half of those coming in the first half. At one point near the end of the first half, he had more than 90% of his team’s points. Maxon Lamonds also put up three huge 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to put his team up and scored 12 overall for Farmington. Festus was led by 12 points from Drew Johnson and Aiden Clifton.
Farmington will play the South Iron Panthers in the semifinals on Friday, Dec. 29 at 7:30pm. Festus will play the DeSoto Dragons in the fifth place bracket on Friday at 4:30pm.
