Fredericktown, Mo. (KFMO) - A rare Thursday night football game saw Fredericktown and Central go into two overtimes, with the Rebels defeating the Blackcats 42-34.
The rain began in the first quarter, and continued to fall throughout the night. Despite this, both teams used a steady mix of run and pass to move the ball forward. The two teams traded blows all night, with Central quarterback Jaxon Jones and Fredericktown quarterback Easton Wood putting up solid numbers both on the ground and through the air. Fredericktown had the final opportunity in regulation, tied at 28, but a late push into Central territory saw them pushed back by a holding penalty and a big loss on the ground. DJ Baca's game-winning try from 47 yards was long enough, but wide left, sending it the game to overtime.
Both teams were able to score on their first overtime posessions.. In the second overtime, Central was able to punch it in from 1-yard out, converting the 2-point conversion to make it 42-34.
On the ensuing Fredericktown possession, the Blackcats thought they had scored on a first play, 25-yard touchdown pass from Wood to Baca, who had caught three previous touchdown passes in regulation. However, it was called back by a holding penalty. The next play, a deep ball from Easton Wood was picked off by Jaxon Jones to end the game and allow Central to escape with the narrow victory.
Central is 3-0 this season, they face St. Dominic next week. The Blackcats fall to 1-2. They'll face the Warriors of Valle Catholic in Week 4.
