(Park Hills, MO) Jaheim Tanksley sends the Moberly Greyhounds back home with a huge Region 16 victory after he hits a desperation buzzer beater to defeat the Mineral Area Cardinals, 65-63 at the Bob Sechrest Fieldhouse on Saturday.
Moberly had a chance to end the night two posessions before but Amarion Dickerson denied a layup opportunity for Tanksley sending Dior Conners and Dylan Williams the other way.
After the Timeout, the Greyhounds took the lead once more on a layup, but MAC tied it once more with free throws, before the final possesion of the game with 28.3 seconds.
Moberly's head coach, Patrick Smith, jokingly said the team practices that final play.
MAC Head Coach, Luke Strege, thought the defense played the final seconds as planned out of the timeout.
Tedric Washington, who's shot was blocked that led to the game winner from Tanksley, led all scorers with 22 points. Xavier Sykes contributed 11 points in the win. Hounds' Coach Smith after the win.
Mineral Area was paced by Dylan Williams with 20 points, while Amarion Dickerson added 10 points in the loss. After the contest, MAC Head Coach Luke Strege.
Mineral Area came back from a deficit as large as 13 in the first half and trailed at halftime 35-26. MAC outscored Moberly in the second half 39-30 but were unable to overcome the final blow. It was Mineral Area's first loss since November 15.
The Greyhounds improve to 16-3 and 3-0 in the Region 16 standings. Mineral Area falls to 14-3 and 2-1 in Region play. The Cardinals play Monday in Springfield, IL against Lincoln Land. Coverage starts at 2:30pm on KFMO and KFMOsportsPlus. Tip off at 3:00pm.
Moberly and Mineral Area will play two more times this season: February 1 at Moberly (ESPN+ Game of the Week) and February 22 in Park Hills.
