(Cape Girardeau, MO) The Southeast Missouri State Redhawks were victorious in their season opener 37-15 over North Alabama Saturday night. Hillsboro Graduate and SEMO Freshman Payton Brown had three rushing touchdowns and collected 97 yards on 19 carries.
Brown was named FCS Kickoff Most Valuable Player after tying the FCS Kickoff single-game touchdown record.
Quarterback Carter Hensley completed 10 of 14 passes for 100 yards. SEMO erased a 15-7 second quarter deficit with four unanswered touchdowns and a late 41 yard field goal from DC Pippin sealed the win.
SEMO travels to face the New Mexico State Aggies on Saturday.
