Pell Grants Might Cover Shorter Programs

(Park Hills, MO) Politicians in Washington DC are looking at the possibility of allowing a student financial aid Pell Grant to cover short term programs as well as full length educational routines. A measure supporting the idea passed the U.S. House and is on its way to the Senate. The President of Mineral Area College, Dr. Joe Gilgour, says he was with a team from the Association of Community College Trustees who visited Washington recently. According to Gilgour they spoke with Missouri Senator, Roy Blunt, who thinks the issue might pass with approval of his colleagues.

If Senators vote to allow Pell Grants to cover short term programs in the future, like the new welding and HVAC classes, it's expected student numbers would increase dramatically.
