Minor Earthquake Shakes Southeast Missouri Early Tuesday Morning

Park Hills, Mo. (KFMO) - A small earthquake was recorded in southeast Missouri early Tuesday morning, April 15.

According to a preliminary report from the U.S. Geological Survey, the magnitude 2.4 quake occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m. It was centered about 8.9 miles south-southwest of Williamsville and 13.3 miles west-northwest of Poplar Bluff. The quake had a shallow depth of 1 kilometer, which can sometimes make minor tremors more noticeable. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

Earthquakes of this magnitude are generally considered minor and are not uncommon in the New Madrid Seismic Zone, which runs through southeastern Missouri.
