Park Hills, Mo. (KFMO) - Mineral Area College (MAC) has received a $115,533 grant from the Missouri State Board of Nursing to improve its nursing education programs. The grant is part of $5 million in funding Governor Mike Parson announced earlier this week to support nursing programs at 13 Missouri colleges and universities.
Dean of Health Professions Angie Erickson expressed gratitude for the award, emphasizing its importance in equipping students with state-of-the-art technology and resources. "This funding will ensure our students are prepared for their nursing careers by giving them access to the latest tools and training," Erickson said.
The funds will be used to purchase advanced equipment for MAC’s nursing programs at the Park Hills main campus, as well as its Perryville and Cape Girardeau locations. The technology will allow students to safely practice and perfect clinical procedures in a simulated environment, enhancing their readiness for real-world medical situations.
Erickson highlighted the state’s efforts to combat the national nursing shortage, saying, "This investment strengthens the pipeline of qualified nurses who will serve our healthcare system locally, regionally, and statewide."
MAC offers several nursing programs, including Practical Nursing, Associate Degree Nursing (ADN), and Advanced Placement ADN programs. Applications for the Fall 2025 semester are open now through March 7, 2025. For more information or to apply, MineralArea.edu/Nursing.
