Fenton Man Sentenced to Federal Prison for Firearm Possession During Probation

Jefferson Co., Mo. (KFMO) - A Fenton man, already on probation for multiple felony convictions, has been sentenced to 63 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to illegal firearm possession.

47-year-old James C. Street admitted to arranging a gun sale while in the St. Louis County Jail, though his previous felony convictions in both Jefferson and St. Louis counties barred him from owning firearms. Court documents reveal that Street possessed three pistols and an AR-style rifle.

On October 30, U.S. District Judge Henry E. Autrey sentenced Street to a federal prison term that will run consecutively with sentences he is expected to receive in Jefferson and St. Louis counties for probation violations. In 2020, Street was placed on probation for multiple charges in Jefferson County, including harassment and property damage. He was also on probation in St. Louis County for a 2019 assault conviction.

According to court documents, Street's federal gun charges stemmed from a June 2023 incident where he allegedly arranged the sale of one of his firearms. St. Louis County Police notified the ATF after monitoring Street’s calls from jail, where he used code names for the guns, referring to them as “thumpers” and “stock options.” Authorities observed one of Street’s associates selling a .357-caliber revolver in a Walmart parking lot, seizing the weapon immediately after.

ATF agents later searched the home of one of Street's associates, discovering a cache of firearms, ammunition, and documents belonging to Street, solidifying the case that led to his sentencing.
