Farmington, Mo. (KFMO) - City crews are out in full force today, working to clear snow-covered roads across Farmington. At this time, efforts are primarily focused on plowing major thoroughfares to ensure safe travel for residents.
Officials advise residents to be mindful of a few important winter weather tips as plowing operations continue:
- Due to the fluffy nature of this snowfall, residents are encouraged to clear any snow buildup at the end of their driveways while it remains soft. If left to thaw and refreeze, it could become compacted and difficult to remove.
- Snowplows naturally create a row of snow along the edge of the roadway, which may unintentionally block some driveways. This is an unavoidable part of plowing, and residents may need to shovel again to clear their exits.
- When shoveling, individuals should dress warmly, avoid overexertion, and seek assistance if they have health concerns.
- With over 100 miles of city streets to clear, plowing is a gradual process. Primary roads will be addressed first, followed by secondary and residential streets.
- Residents are asked to avoid parking on streets if possible, allowing plows to operate more effectively and safely.
- Even after plowing, some snow and ice may remain on roadways, making conditions slick. Drivers should use caution when traveling.
City officials appreciate the community’s patience as crews work to clear the roads. Residents are urged to stay safe, limit outdoor exposure during the cold weather, and drive with extra care.
