Child Drowns in Big River

(Jefferson County, MO) An 11 year old boy from Cedar Hill, in Jefferson County, is dead after drowning in the Big River Sunday afternoon. Highway patrol reports indicate the incident took place at 3:15 when the boy, who was wearing a life jacket, entered the water downstream to swim. He became stuck on a log in the middle of the river and went under. He did not resurface. Jefferson County Sheriff, Dave Marshak, says one of his officers arrived on the scene, took off his uniform, and swam to the boy. CPR was started yet the child did not live. The boy had been attending another person's birthday party.
