Blunt Concerned Over Police Staffing Shortages

(Washington, DC) Missouri United States Senator Roy Blunt, Co Chair of the Senate Law Enforcement Caucus, is concerned about the alarming number of police officer vacancies at police departments across the nation, including the U.S. Capitol Police, and police departments in Missouri. Blunt says the Capitol Police Department in Washington, DC, is about 200 officers below the authorized level of around 2,000 officers and that retirement is one problem causing the shortage however policy is the real problem.

According to Blunt new police officers are needed to replace retiring officers and those who are leaving the force because of the additional dangers now involved with the work.
