Shirley J. (Barnhouse) Boren
Passed away peacefully at her home on October 15, at the age of 87.
Born in Elvins, Missouri, on January 14, 1937, Shirley was the daughter of William and Anna (Beck) Barnhouse. She married Darrell Boren on June 1, 1957.
Shirley, “Nanny,” felt that her calling in life was to take care of her children, and she did just that. She was always surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even their friends. She once said, “My favorite thing in all these years is what’s all around me right now. I always felt God gave you all to me and He helps take care of you. I pray for that all the time. And, I think I have the sweetest, most loving, the best: kids, grandkids and great-grandkids in the world. I really do.” The proof of her achievement was evident. No matter how old they got, even into their 20’s, her grandkids and great-grandkids took over her house almost every Saturday night; just to be with her and in the loving environment that she provided. Our Saturday nights together will be what we all hold onto forever.
Shirley is survived by her three children: Carrie Hill, Laura (Dexter) Pirtle, and Brian (Michelle) Boren; seven grandchildren: Bobby (Haley) Pirtle, Sara (Jeremy) Cole, Travis (Mandi) Pirtle, Joey (Kelli) Kernan, Andy (April) Pirtle, Zane Boren, and Gage Boren; thirteen great-grandchildren: Hunter (Grace), Taylor, Braden, Natalie, Kaden, Alex, Nate, Macie, Brody, Emma, Avery, Kate, and August; and her sister, Judy Pinson.
She was preceded in death by her beloved spouse of 62 years, Darrell Boren; her parents, William and Anna Barnhouse; her siblings, Anna Luman, Bill Barnhouse, Barbara Howell, and Marilyn Martin; and her son-in-law, Joe Hill.
