Trump Escorted Out of PA Rally After Shots Fired

Butler, Pa. (KFMO) - Shots were fired while former President Donald Trump was speaking at a rally Saturday in Butler, Pennsylvania.

The incident happened five minutes into the former president's rally. Reporters heard numerous shots and Secret Service rushed the stage, as Trump ducked behind the podium, touching his ear. Trump was escorted off of the stage as people in the crowd dropped to the ground. Some blood could be seen on his face.

Trump was taken away in a motorcade. He held up a fist as he got into the SUV.

A senior government official confirmed to CBS News that the former president is safe.

The shooting is being investigated as a possible assassination attempt, according to law enforcement officials.

The shooter was killed by the Secret Service, and a rally attendee was also killed, according to a Secret Service source. Butler County District Attorney Richard Goldinger said a second spectator is in serious condition.

CBS News reports that the crowd became agitated and some were defiant, refusing to leave, others were in tears.
