Ste. Genevieve County 911 Tax on Ballot

(Ste. Genevieve County, MO) Ste. Genevieve County voters will decide the fate of a 3/8 of 1% county wide sales tax, that would help pay for the county's 911 service, during the April elections. The service will be going all digital and the extra funding would fill the need. Reports indicate the estimated cost of running the service for a year is a half million dollars and it's hoped the tax would provide that. The tax would be paid by anyone making a purchase in Ste. Genevieve County. An informational meeting will be held Thursday at the Progress Sports Complex meeting room, at 7pm, to discuss the issue and provide information to voters. Funds for the 911 service were being paid by a tax levied on land line telephones, yet with the loss of many of those, the tax needs to come from another source.
