Jefferson Co., Mo. (KFMO) - A multi-county crime spree came to a dramatic end Friday after the arrest of 33-year-old Jonathon Lyles of St. Louis, who now faces numerous felony charges.
According to Jefferson County Sheriff Dave Marshak, the series of crimes began around 7:38 a.m. on December 8 when an armed robbery occurred in Arnold. Lyles, allegedly driving a stolen Porsche Boxster, led deputies on a dangerous pursuit through Jefferson and Ste. Genevieve Counties, during which he reportedly tried to ram multiple law enforcement vehicles and a deputy deploying stop sticks.
Deputies terminated the pursuit after Lyles drove the wrong way on Highway 67. He continued south on Interstate 55, later abandoning the Porsche in the Hawthorne Hills neighborhood near Festus. Authorities say Lyles then entered a home in the 1200 block of Hawthorne Hills, where he demanded money, car keys, and a phone from the female resident before stealing her Toyota Camry.
The stolen Camry was quickly spotted, and Lyles collided with two Missouri State Highway Patrol cruisers before the vehicle became stuck. Law enforcement officers took him into custody without further incident.
Lyles faces charges including Assault – 1st Degree, Armed Criminal Action, Burglary, Stealing, Tampering with a Motor Vehicle, and Resisting Arrest by Fleeing. He is being held without bond at the Jefferson County jail.
Sheriff Marshak thanked first responders from Jefferson and Ste. Genevieve Counties for their assistance, as well as Prosecuting Attorney Trisha Stefanski for securing a warrant quickly.
“Swift action and teamwork brought this dangerous situation to a safe resolution,” Marshak stated.
