Matlock in Court for Bond Reduction

(Washington County, MO) A Cadet man, 60 year old Mark J. Matlock, will make a court appearance for a bond reduction hearing Tuesday, January 11th after being arrested, and charged, for the murder of his step grandson, 35 year old Joshua Boyer.  A probable cause statement from the Washington County Sheriff's Department indicates Matlock is alleged to have shot and killed Boyer at the residence they shared. Matlock has been a step grand parent to Boyer since he was born. December 29th Boyer is alleged to have gotten in an argument and was attempting to get into a bedroom that Sharon Boyer was in. When Matlock observed Boyer attempting to get into the room, he fired three rounds from a 9mm pistol from 10-15 feet away.  One of the bullets hit Boyer's spin, paralyzing him from the chest down causing him to fall onto his back. While Boyer was laying on the ground Matlock is alleged to have approached him and fired once more shooting him in the head killing him. When Matlock was asked why he fired the last shot he stated that it was to make sure Boyer was dead. Matlock is charged with Murder in the first degree, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon.
