Incident at Kingston High School Highlights Importance of Safety Protocols

Washington Co., Mo. (KFMO) - On Thursday, September 12, at Kingston High School, a concerning incident occurred involving a student who allegedly made a statement about having a gun in their backpack. The Kingston Resource Officer and High School Principal took immediate action by intervening, isolating the student, and conducting a thorough search of the student’s backpack and locker. Fortunately, no weapon was found during the investigation.

Superintendent Dr. Mike Golden stressed the importance of treating any statements about weapons or violence with the utmost seriousness, regardless of the intent behind them. “We want to remind all students that any statement about weapons or violence, even those made jokingly or only to elicit a response, will be taken very seriously and will result in serious consequences,” Dr. Golden stated.

Kingston school officials urge parents and guardians to speak with their children about the seriousness of making any remarks related to violence or weapons, whether at school or on the bus. The safety of students and staff remains the top priority at Kingston, and the district is seeking the community's support in reinforcing this critical message.

Parents who need assistance in discussing these issues with their children or who have additional questions are encouraged to contact their school’s administrative office for guidance.
