Groundhog Day Brings Weather Attention

(Punxsutawney, PA.) It's Groundhog Day, and even though it may be our favorite weather lore event, for centuries the day was celebrated under the name of Candlemas in the Roman Catholic Church. The Old Farmer's Almanac Report's Dan Holiday, says Candlemas was the forerunner of Groundhog Day.

Candlemas had its own weather related lore for as the saying goes: If Candlemas Day be clear and bright, Winter will have another fight. This year's Groundhog Day with Punxatawney Phil shows we have more winter ahead, he saw his shadow.
