Fredericktown, Mo. (KFMO) - One week after the fire broke out at the Critical Mineral Recovery facility in Fredericktown, the Fredericktown Fire Department continues to lead efforts to fully contain it.
With most of the facility’s interior cleared, firefighters are now focused on extinguishing a final area of smoldering material. Environmental contractors are working alongside them to manage runoff control and secure on-site water storage, which benefited Wednesday from dry weather that allowed for additional construction to prevent any contamination from runoff.
Meanwhile, the EPA and contractors are actively monitoring air quality to protect both the crews on-site and the surrounding community.
Water sampling continues, though results of these tests are still pending. Fredericktown Fire Department officials report that progress is being made daily and will continue as they work toward full containment.
