Farmington Schools Adjust Homecoming Events Due to Rainy Forecast

Farmington, Mo. (KFMO) - With a weather forecast predicting a 100% chance of rain and 20 m.p.h. winds for Friday afternoon, Farmington R-7 School District officals have made changes to their homecoming schedule to ensure the safety of students, staff, and the community.

One of the most significant changes is the cancellation of the traditional homecoming parade. Despite efforts to explore alternative options, district officials found that the logistics did not work in their favor. However, the rest of Friday’s events will proceed with adjustments. The school day will still end early, as it was already planned to be a half day.

The coronation of the Homecoming Queen, originally slated to take place on Jack Richardson Field, will now take place at 6 p.m. in the Black Knight Fieldhouse. The event is open to the public, offering the community a chance to participate in the celebration while staying safe from the expected weather conditions. The football game will kick off as scheduled at 7 p.m. Friday night, giving fans an opportunity to cheer on the Knights. Saturday’s homecoming dance is also set to continue as originally planned.

District officials are asking everyone to stay informed of any further weather-related updates but are optimistic that the revised schedule will allow for a safe and enjoyable homecoming weekend.
