Farmington R-7 School District Responds to Rumored Threats

Farmington, Mo. (KFMO) - The Farmington R-7 School District has issued a statement to parents addressing concerns about a rumored threat to Farmington Middle School and Lincoln Intermediate School. The district became aware of a text thread, Friday morning, involving 11 Lincoln students, where a student expressed concern about a potential school shooting after overhearing a sibling on the phone discussing the rumor.

The initial text message warned, "Guys I'm not joking there is going to be more officers at all school tomorrow because there is going to be a school shooting there is a threat of an unfamiliar number going to the police so be aware and again I'm not joking." However, the student later admitted, "Sorry guys it was just a rumor, I don't know if it is true or not. Just don't worry about it too much." The rumor was further discussed in a separate "6th-grade-only" Facetime group chat, which grew from 12 to approximately 50 participants.

The Farmington School District has consulted with the Farmington Police Department and, following an investigation, stated that there is no reason to believe the district is the target of any credible threat. School officials are closely monitoring the situation and have assured parents that safety protocols are being diligently followed.

The district urged families to remind students to report any rumors or threats to a trusted adult rather than sharing them through text messages or social media. Officials warned that spreading unverified information can cause unnecessary panic and stress within the school community. The district emphasized that students who spread false or malicious rumors that disrupt the school day will face disciplinary action and could be subject to law enforcement intervention.

Parents and community members are encouraged to report any concerning information directly to school staff, law enforcement, or use the anonymous Tip Line available on the Farmington School District website.
