Crawford County Residents Targeted by Scam Calls from Fake Detective

Crawford Co., Mo. (KFMO) - The Crawford County Sheriff's Department is alerting residents about a phone scam in which callers impersonate law enforcement.

The scam involves an individual claiming to be "Detective Charles Mackey" from the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department. The caller requests that recipients pay bond money upfront to avoid being arrested and spending time in jail.

Officials want to emphasize that this is a scam. The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office does not call individuals to collect bond money. Instead, they arrest individuals with active warrants, and the opportunity to post bond comes after the arrest.

Residents are advised never to provide personal or financial information over the phone and to verify the identity of callers claiming to represent law enforcement.
