April 4th Elections Possible Turnout

(Farmington, MO) The April elections will be held Tuesday, April 4th. St. Francois County Clerk, Kevin Engler, says the election typically has a low voter turnout of around 5% yet the marijuana tax issue could bring some additional voters to the polls.

The cities of Farmington and Park Hills hold the only dispensaries in St. Francois County and those towns are asking residents to approve the collection of a 3% sales tax on the sale of recreational marijuana. St. Francois County also has the issue on the ballot county wide. Since the only dispensaries in St. Francois County are in city limits, and not under the county's jurisdiction, the county won't be able to collect the tax even if approved by voters. The county tax would not apply within city limits.
