Ironton Mo. (KFMO) - Ironton residents continue to face a water outage due to operational issues at the American Water Treatment Plant. Mayor Jeff Stinson confirmed Thursday morning that there is currently no water in the city’s system, and American Water crews are working diligently to address the issue and restore service as soon as possible.
In the meantime, bottled water will be distributed to residents the Alco parking lot at 1390 North Highway 21. Distribution is expected to begin by 10 a.m. Residents are asked to bring a form of proof of address, such as a utility bill, to confirm residency. Mayor Stinson urged residents to remain patient and respectful as they line up to receive water.
American Water anticipates that water service may be restored later this evening. However, a precautionary boil water advisory, issued last night, will remain in effect once service is back online. Residents are advised to boil water for at least three minutes before using it for drinking or cooking. Water is safe for bathing and other non-consumptive uses. American Water will notify residents once the boil advisory is lifted.
Mayor Stinson acknowledged the frustration of the situation, stating, “I understand your concerns, and I want you to know that American Water is taking every precaution to ensure our water is safe and reliable. They are committed to investing in our system to make it more dependable for the long term.”
Both the City of Ironton and American Water request that residents avoid approaching crews while they work, to ensure safety for both workers and the community.
