Governor Parson, Attorney General Bailey Announce New Actions to Combat Spread of Dangerous Unregulated Cannabis Products

Jefferson City, Mo. (KFMO) - Governor Mike Parson and Attorney General Andrew Bailey have launched a joint task force to combat the spread of unregulated psychoactive cannabis products in Missouri. The task force, formed between the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) and the Division of Alcohol and Tobacco Control (ATC), aims to protect public safety, particularly for children.

This announcement follows the refusal of Executive Order 24-10 and emergency rules by the ATC, prompting immediate action. Governor Parson emphasized the urgent need for regulation, stating, “We will root out these cannabis products being deceptively marketed to our children.”

Attorney General Bailey reinforced the commitment, explaining that a new unit within the Consumer Protection Division will investigate referrals from the ATC and enforce existing laws to protect consumers. The AGO will use its authority under the Missouri Merchandising Practices Act to take legal action against offenders.

ATC will handle investigations of licensees involved in selling unregulated products and refer cases to the AGO. DHSS will continue efforts to embargo products not originating from approved sources, and Missouri Poison Center data has shown a steady rise in accidental consumption among young children.

Missourians can report unregulated products through DHSS’s complaint system.
